Lose the Pooch: New Workout to Sculpt Lower Abs

Attachment-1 (1)

Alright, you guys asked for it so here it is, another Lose the Pooch Workout.  In case you missed the last one, you can CLICK HERE check it out.   Now, before I get started, you should know that the abs, or rectus abdominus, is actually all ONE muscle group that forms an “8-pack.”  So you can’t really work your lower abs without working your upper abs (and vise versa).

However, there are some exercises that really target the lower region of the abdominals.  I  selected a few of my favorites and effectively sequenced them to create the GRIT by Brit Lose the Pooch Workout.  For best results, complete this workout 2-3 times per week for 4 weeks.  Also, be sure monitor your diet by avoiding foods and habits that cause bloating (i.e. too much sodium and lack of water consumption).

Tighten that Tummy!  xoxo, Brit

Holiday Travel Hotel Room Workout

Hey Gang –  Happy “Tone it Up Tuesday!”  Work travel has been crazy busy for me recently, which means I’ve had to get creative with workouts that I can do in my hotel room.    I designed and tested this workout a few days ago and I really liked it.  Better yet, I was able to hammer it out while listening to a conference call (wink wink).

Like most of my workouts, this one requires no equipment and blends a nice mix of cardio and strength training.  Warning – there are 90 push ups – prepare to pump them out!  I HATE push ups because they’re challenging, but I LOVE them because they simultaneously strengthen our upper body and core.  Overall, the workout takes about 20 minutes and you can expect to burn ~200 calories. Let me know how it goes!

Better Sore Than Sorry: Activity alternatives to avoid skipping workouts

better sore than sorry

We had some crazy cold weather in Dallas this weekend – an ice storm to be exact. Consequently, many of my favorite group fitness classes were cancelled, which kind of put me in a funk.  A big part of me wanted to just skip my workouts all together and curl up on my couch.  Fortunately, while doing some internet browsing I came across this article, 10 Questions to Ask Yourself before You Skip Your Workout, and it became very clear to me that I needed to get my butt off of the couch and into my workout clothes.  While there’s nothing wrong with resting (our bodies do need adequate recovery), I’m really glad I went ahead and got some alternative activity in.  My workout schedule this weekend went like this:

  • Thursday = Run up and down the stairs in my house for 10 min + 50 push ups + my 10 Min Abs vol. 1
  • Friday = TaeBo 60 min fat blaster DVD + dancing around in my living room with ankle weights on to some of my favorite jamz
  • Saturday = Turbo Kick + Body Pump (my gym opened for a few hours – yay!)
  • Sunday = Hot Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Now that I’m getting ready to embark on my work week, I’m feeling energized and happy that I didn’t skip my sweat sessions.  In fact, I think changing up my routine actually benefited my body – I’m pretty sore in areas that I don’t typically focus on.

For the Dallas readers who are still going to be stuck at home tomorrow, here’s a 15 minute workout video created by yours truly that will get you sweating 🙂  You can knock this bad boy out in your home with no equipment.  The routine is designed to get your heart rate up, work all of the major muscle groups and burn 150-200 calories.

Enjoy the workout, be encouraged  and have a wonderful week! xoxo, Brit

Sexy Chica Chest Workout for Women

I hope you guys have enjoyed the targeted workouts I’ve been posting lately.  In case you missed, here are a couple from the last few weeks:

Keeping on the trend of upper body workouts for women, here’s a new chest workout I designed with the ladies in mind (although men will enjoy it as well).  For best results, complete the entire circuit using 8-20 pound dumbbells, depending on your strength.  You’ll notice that this workout has bench press “negatives” in it.  Just perform a basic, lying dumbbell bench press but push the weights up quickly and then bring them down to starting position very slowly, controlling the resistance on the way down (count to 3 slowly to make sure you are moving at the right pace.)  As always, add a little cardio and stretching to the end of the workout.

Enjoy and let me know how it goes.  Lots of luv, Brit

Sexy Shoulders Resistance Workout for Women

brit sexy shoulders workout

Happy Saturday Ladies and Gents!  While I love you both equally, I designed this workout especially for the ladies.  I think many of you can empathize with the how hard it is to find a challenging shoulder workout that isn’t catered towards bulking up (i.e. 4 set of 5 military press at 50 pounds). Come on, I don’t want to look like I can pick up my date, I just want to be able to rock a nice sleeveless blouse during my date.  However, let me caveat my last statement by clarifying that even if we don’t want to bulk up, we must still lift a weight that challenges us.  If it doesn’t challenge us, it doesn’t change us! Don’t be afraid to pick up a pair of 10-20 pound dumbbells when doing my “Sexy Shoulders” workout.

While I created this shoulder workout just for the ladies, it’s a great workout for men as well.  Unlike my other arm workouts, this routine solely focuses on the shoulder muscles instead of the entire arm.  It’s a great way to isolate the shoulders and really build some definition.  For best results, do this workout  2 times per week along with 30 minutes of cardio for 4 weeks.  Enjoy and let me know how it goes.

5 Day Resistance Workout Routine! 5 days, 5 unique workouts to work each specific muscle group

5 Day

Hey Guys!  Hope you had a great weekend.  So my “fit friend” and fellow blogger Laura (author of http://www.50by25.com/) gave the great suggestion of creating a weekly resistance workout plan for my blog followers.  The plan incorporates very targeted workouts that each focus on a specific muscle group.  None of the workouts are full-body circuits (i.e. my infamous Tummy, Booty & Thighs circuit that you guys love so much).

So, the idea is that you need to complete the entire weekly plan in order to get a complete, total body workout.   At the beginning of the week, you work the larger muscles groups and then later on in the week you work the smaller ones.  This sequencing allows you to get some fierce fitness going on by really exhausting and fatiguing one muscle group at a time.  Doing so requires greater muscle repair and consequently, the development of more lean muscle mass.

For best results, complete the following plan in addition to 2-3, 30 minute cardio workouts.  Enjoy and let me know how it goes!  Lots of luv, Brit

7 Days of Sweat: 1 Week Cardio Formula for a Super Slim Down

push yourself

Hey GRIT gang!  In case you’re looking to change up your cardio routine, I’m gladly sharing my cardio workout plan for the week.  I’ve recently been a little lax with my sweat sessions due to a crazy travel schedule , so this week I’m going to get my butt back in gear!

When looking to drop a few pounds, I’m firm believer in doing 1 hour of cardio per day.  So I designed this workout to include a combination of various 1 hour workouts each day of the week.  Knock out these sweat sessions along with my other healthy habits and I promise you will see slimmer you by the end of the week.

I have to be honest, my “7 Days of Sweat” are easier said than done.  PUSH YOURSELF and don’t sacrifice what you want most for what you want at this moment.  You got this!

Lots of luv,

Brit

Buddy Boot Camp! 5 Super Effective Partner Exercises to do with your Fit Friends

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kpxvRHar4c&w=560&h=315]

Hey GRIT Gang! I hope that all is amazing in your world.  Very sorry for my sporadic blog posting – I’ve been doing lots of traveling the past 2 weeks.  On a positive note, last weekend I went to the Bryson City, North Carolina to a enjoy a weekend “ruffing” it with some of my best friends from business school.

In the midst of hiking the Great Smoky Mountains, cooking homemade meals, sitting by the camp fire and reminiscing on the good old days, I designed this “buddy bootcamp” workout.  During our vacation, my friends and I did this super efficient HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) circuit to ensure we got some strength and anaerobic training in .  Not only is the workout effective, it’s also very fun!  So next time you are looking for some fierce, fun exercises to do with your fit friends, keep these 5 exercises in mind…

5 Super Effective Partner Exercises

Before I leave you, I encourage you to not only enjoy the workout itself, but to more importantly enjoy and love the friend that you do the workout with.  And on that note, I leave you with this quote that one of my dearest friends, Lakshmi (staring in the front row of the instructional video above) shared with me:

“A friend is one to whom one may pour out the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that gentle hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.”  – George Eliott

ENJOY!  Lots of luv, Brit
