20 Minute Cardio Tabata Workout

Happy Hump Day Friends!  I hope your week is going well.  I’m counting down the days until my boyfriend and I jet set to Mexico for a much-needed vacation!  The past couple of weeks have been crazy busy planning social events for my fitness studio, teaching classes and attending fitness conferences BUT I wouldn’t have it any other way.

While we intend to spend most of our time being lazy on the beach, we’re both gym rats so we made up some efficient and effective Tabata workouts to knock out in the hotel gym.  Tabata is a Japanese form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).  You can click here to learn more.  Here’s the workout we tried out last week and really enjoyed.

If you want to try the workout, be sure to warm up with light/moderate intensity cardio for 3-5 minutes (e.g. jumping jacks, jog, stationary bike).  Also, you will need 1 set of medium/heavy dumbbells (5-10 pounds) and a jump rope.  You can expect to burn 200-300 calories in 20 minutes.  Better yet, interval training shocks your body so you keep burning calories even after your workout.  YEAH BUDDY!

I hope you enjoy and have an awesome day!  xoxo, Brit

In case you’re pressed for time this weekend, here’s a quick and very effective cardio workout that you can complete in 20 minutes.  I do this workout in my hotel room all the time – it’s simple and sweaty!  Warning – there’s a lot of jumping incorporated, so if you have chronic knee pain or knee injuries, this is not your ideal workout.  For best results, move quickly from one exercise to the next and ONLY rest during the set rest times.  You can expect to burn 250-300 calories in 20 minutes or less.  Be sure to stretch after you’re finished.  If you have questions about any of the exercises, email me at [email protected].  Also, YouTube has tons of example videos to guide you.  Give my 20 Minute Cardio workout a whirl and let me know how it goes.  Also, don’t forget to share your weekend workout plans to win these adorable Sweaty Bands.  Have a great week!  xoxo, Brit

CARDIO Killer!

(above – me teaching TurboKick, the ultimate cardio workout!)

Hi my name is Brit and I’m a cardio junkie…

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all about pumpin’ iron (lifting weights) and vinyasa flowin’ (yoga), but if push comes to shove I ALWAYS go for cardio!  Just 10-15 minutes of brisk walking, jumping jacks, high knee running and/or jumping rope does so much for my body.  Cardio exercise is my workout of choice and here’s why…

  1. Fast Results – If I’m trying drop a few pounds, cardio workouts allow me to reach my goal faster!
  2. Max Calorie Burn – Simply put, 1 hour of cardio burns ~600 calories while 1 hour of yoga/pilates burns ~300 calories
  3. Sweat Out the Toxins – Afer 30 minutes of moving I’m dripping in sweat, feeling detoxed and enjoying my glowing skin!
  4. Larger Lung Capacity – The harder I push myself, the harder it is to breathe and the stronger my lungs become.
  5. Strong Heart – Cardio workouts quickly elevate my heart rate allowing me to strengthen the most important muscle in my body – my HEART!
  6. More Energy – Compared to other forms of exercise, cardio requires the most vigorous amount of movement which energizes my mind, body and soul 😉

Most people think that cardio means you have to be on a boring machine casually walking, cycling or rowing.   However, there’s lots of fun cardio options like kickboxing, dance and athletic drills.  Here’s a 15 minute home cardio workout that I like to do if I’m running low on time.  Don’t forget you can also do the GRIT by Brit Ultimate Body Burn DVD for a 30 minute total body burn 😉

And just for a little extra workout motivation, here’s a picture of 1 of my favorite workout tank tops that always get me pumped for some cardio! Kiss my sweat #GRIT
