Hey Hey friends! I hope you’re excited for the weekend…especially if you live in Dallas! My studio is partnering with the Westin Galleria Dallas to host the 3rd Summer Sweat Series event. This time we are offering a free Turbo Kick class at 2pm this Sunday! After class you can enjoy complimentary passed bites, Sangria and pool access. It’s going to be a blast!
Since the first 2 Summer Sweat Series events were so successful, Fox 4 News asked us to come on their morning show, Good Day, and demo some of the Turbo Kick moves that we’ll be rocking on Sunday. In case you can’t tell, I LOVE being on camera! My childhood dream was to have my own talk show….sigh….some day. haha. Check out the video segment below! We had a ball kicking, punching and jamming on camera.
In the spirit of kickboxing, I highly recommend my at home “DIY Cardio Kickboxing Routine” for your workout of the day. Set aside 30 minutes, blast some crunk music and break a sweat. You won’t regret it.
Wishing you a wonderful day of sweat and smiles. xoxo, Brit
Hi friends – Happy Monday! First and foremost, my apologies for the lack of blog posts last week. I’m not a believer in excuses, so I won’t give you any. I’ll just do better đ
On a brighter note, I’m back to frequent blogging now that most of the renovation and employee on-boarding activities at my new studio, GRIT Fitness, are complete! WOO HOO Being a full-time entrepreneur is WAY more time consuming than working in corporate America, that’s for sure. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. I’m so excited to wake up everyday and get after my long to do list. But before I get to work today, I’ll take a minute and share all of the great progress that was made last week…
So one thing I’m learning a lot about is obtaining city permits. UGH! We finally secured our “green tag” of approval for all of the renovation work that was done in the studio so now we can “legally” open for business. Our super cool, sound responsive DJ lights were installed last week. Also, the custom wall art of motivational sayings were hung. Last we set up the sound system and started blasting some music. For the first time, I could feel the vibe I’ve been trying to create for my clients. I can’t wait until the first class on Jan. 19, 2015!
After getting the studio’s interior set up, I started decorating the entry way. This is a still a work in progress but here’s a sneak peak at the photo wall I’m putting together. I got these frames at At Home (formal Garden Ridge) for only $9.99 each! Then I took photos from my piyo and turbo kick classes over the past three years and had them blown up into black & white poster-size prints. As time progresses, I’m going to add instagram photos from our clients when they post them with hashtag #nogritnopearl – fun huh? Yesterday a I bought a hot pink bench and some other decor for front desk. I’ll post pics of that once I finish đ
On Friday and Saturday I hosted orientation for my fierce, fabulous crew of instructors. Starting off, we will be a team of 10 (including me) to teach over 20 classes per week. We went over the studio policies, “GRIT Etiquette” and had a fun photo shoot. I’m so grateful work with such a fun, high-energy fit family.
Well, that’s the run down. I’ll be back later this afternoon with some healthy holiday cocktail recipes. Until then, HAPPY MONDAY! xoxo, Brit

Hey guys – happy Tuesday! So I’m back in Dallas and back to work renovating and preparing for the grand opening of my very 1st fitness studio! I can’t believe this is all happening. It’s SO MUCH more work than I anticipated but I’m loving every minute of it.
My studio, Dallas GRIT Fitness, is located in East Dallas at 3821 Ross Avenue. I’m SO excited to bring the very 1st one-stop-shop for a variety of the most energetic group fitness & yoga classes! No more having to drop in to 5 different studios to attend your favorite workouts.
Right now, I’m in the thick of of renovations and managing contractors. We started off by tearing down 6 walls in what use to be a chiropractor’s office. Talk about manual labor. I had a little bit of a hiccup last week when the City of Dallas officials stopped by and said I needed an additional permit for the demolition work that was done – YIKES! We had to stop working for a couple of days until we secured the permit – UGH! Fortunately, everything is squared away now and we are back in business!
Once we got all of the walls knocked down and cleaned out, we did a mini celebration – YAY! Then the painters came in and worked their magic. I decided to go with gray walls and white crown molding. What do you think? My biz partner, Tuner, will run Dallas Fit Body Bootcamp in the suite next door. We’re excited to offer cross-studio memberships and joint workouts đ
Now that painting is done, the flooring guys will install beautiful maple wood floors this week.
Last but not least, we will wrap up renovations with mirrors, wall art and sound/lighting installations. Then we are good to go! I’m having an orientation for all of my rockstar instructors in early December and “soft opening” in late December 2014. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress. In the meanwhile, check out the studio website: dallasgritfitnesss.com
Hola Friends! Hope your week is off to a good start. It’s Tuesday, which for me means workout time! Most of you know that I’m huge fan of cardio kickboxing (Turbo Kick in particular) so I wanted to create a DIY kickboxing workout that you can do in the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is turn on a 30 minute playlist of your fav upbeat jams and then rock out as you power through these exercises…
This workout requires NO equipment. However, you can wear weighted gloves for some simultaneous muscle toning. For the best cardio conditioning, try to complete the circuit four times in 30 minutes (this includes 3 – 2minute rest sections). Stay light on your toes and keep your abs engaged with each exercise. You can expect to be super sweaty and burn 350-450 calories. For a little extra entertainment value, here’s a video of me rocking out some cardio kickboxing at Turbo Kick last Saturday. Now it’s your turn – enjoy! Luv, Brit
Happy Monday friends! Hope you had a relaxing weekend and are feeling energized for a wonderful week ahead. I had a weekend full of positive indulgences and I’m feeling super satisfied this morning. On Friday, I had the privilege of teaching PiYo at Fossil World Headquarters in Dallas. To my surprise, the entire Michael Kors jewelry team came to my class and boy did they rock it out. We had a fun, sweaty, lunch break indeed! There’s nothing I love more than meeting new people and connecting over our love for fitness and active living! Also, shout out to Fossil for being an amazing company that supports healthy living among its employees.
On Saturday, I did my usual 2 Hour Saturday Detox workout with my gym buddies at 24 Hour Fitness. I’ve been working out with these ladies for 3 years now and they are truly my best friends. They even starred in my workout DVD (you thought they looked familiar, huh?). We did our usually 1 hour Turbo Kick class followed by 1 hour Body Pump class. We’re also planning a hiking and wine trip in the coming weeks which I’m very much looking forward to!
After class, I enjoyed a nice long shower, rubbed my body down in Marc Jacobs Lola perfumed lotion and headed to Athleta for a little retail therapy. We just got Athleta in Dallas like 4 months ago. I already like this brand because some of the Athleta employees came to my PiYo class this Summer and passed out free headbands to the students in my class – how nice is that? I ended up buying 2 cute black workout tanks. Both are kinda sheer and have a cool open back (I’ll post pics soon on Fitness Fashion Friday). I wanted something that would go well with my neon sports bras and head bands. The tanks are exactly what I was looking for.
I have to admit, this was actually my first time ever shopping at Athleta. I was pleasantly surprised by the bright colors, chic styles and super friendly staff. I think I may become a regular customer. The ultimate determining factor will be how their yoga pants/leggings fit me – I haven’t tried any yet. Do any of you shop at Athleta?
Later on Saturday night my college friend from Cornell, Nicole (pictured on the right) planned a lovely ladies night for our Dallas crew. We went to Painting with a Twist where you BYOB and take a paining lesson. I had a blast! Not only did I get to hang out with my friends, but the icing on the cake was that we painted a picture of the Eiffell Tower. I have a soft spot in my heart for Paris because my birthday is July 14th, Bastille Day. I’ve never been to Paris but I want to go SO badly – the City of Lights, sigh…
Nonetheless, I’m super grateful the good times I shared with my friends. Overall I had an amazing weekend and I’m looking forward to more goodness this week. I can’t believe it’s going to be October! Time flies when you enjoy good workouts, good shopping and good friends đ
Hello ladies and gents. Hope you are wrapping up a lovely weekend. Mine weekend was super busy (just how I like it). Last week I didn’t have to travel to Chicago for work because it was a shorter week with Labor Day. This gave me the opportunity to go to my favorite fitness classes in the evenings and volunteer at my community placement with the Junior League of Dallas. On Friday, I woke up super early, made some black coffee and taught my 6am spin class at 24 Hour Fitness. I LOVE my playlist right now – “Undressed” by Kim Cesarion is my jam!
After class I showered at the gym and headed to my office in Downtown Dallas to work for the day. We had breakfast tacos catered in from Taco Cabana – yummy! After catching up with my colleagues, completing my expense reports and finishing some client work, I scurried over to the nail salon for a mani/pedi. Now that its September, I got a Fall color – “chinchilly” by Essie . What do you guys think? What’s your favorite Fall nail polish color? Also, I had a major sweet tooth and treated myself to a McDonald’s ice cream cone (only 140 calories – not terrible right?)
On Friday night I went our for a sushi dinner with my friend Casey. I love that my friends are so engaging and positive. Just being around positive people can totally put a smile on my face. It’s like sunshine. We didn’t stay out too late because on Saturday mornings I teach PiYo for the W Dallas Hotel. Class was PACKED this weekend (as you can see). I think everyone was trying work of the Labor Day BBQ…or just savor some fun in the sun. It was a hot, sweaty BLAST!
I chilled out and ran a couple of errands on Saturday afternoon. That evening I had a BALL at my little sister’s 23rd birthday party. My sister, Kortani, is a Texas Tech Varsity Pom Squad alumn and now dances for the Dallas Cowboys. She decided to throw a pole-dancing party for her b-day and invited all of her dancer friends. I was super intimidated. We ended up drinking wine, dancing and have a really good time trying out new moves on the pole. My mom came along and took lots of pics. Long story short, I have so much respect for girls who can legitimately pole dance – HOLY CORE STRENGTH!
This morning I had a some quiet time and reflected on my week and what I want to happen during the week ahead. I skipped church today (oops – don’t tell my mom). For breakfast I toasted a whole wheat English muffin and topped it with almond butter and strawberry preserves. I also made a giant pot of black coffee which I sipped slowly throughout the morning. I need to start being careful about my caffeine intake – I’m a coffee junkie! Drinking lots of water it critical if you’re a heavy coffee drinker like me. While I enjoyed my breakfast I also learned some new moves for my Sunday afternoon Turbo Kick class – teaching Round 62. Have any of you ever taken a Turbo Kick class? If not, I highly recommend. Especially if you take it with me đ
After my Turbo Kick class I stopped by parents house to watch a little bit of the Cowboys game. After seeing that it was going to be a total disaster, I cut my watching time short and headed home to clean up my place and chill. I was so happy that the orange roses I bought 4 days ago are still alive and kicking. They are the perfect touch to my little bachelorette pad. I’m going to have to throw them away tonight though because I’m catching a 6am flight to Chicago tomorrow morning for work.
Now I’m packing up and getting ready to wake up early. I still need to plan my workouts for the week. Maybe I’ll do my old trusty hotel room workout tomorrow night. What are your workout plans?
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead filled with fun, fun and more fun! Lots of luv, Brit
