GRIT Game Day Workout

Who’s enjoying football season?!  I am!  In fact we are hosting a special GRIT Game Day Workout at my studio on Oct. 17th – all of our clients are wearing their favorite team’s football jersey or t-shirt and we are serving treats and goodies throughout the morning.  If you live in Dallas, you should definitely join us for a class or 2, CLICK HERE view the schedule and register.  We’re all about FUN + FITNESS 🙂

While Summer is my favorite season, Fall comes in a close 2nd mainly because I Iove football and love the crisp weather.  That said, today I’m sharing a super athletic, agility cardio workout that will get you sweating and make you feel like superstar athlete!

Before I get to the workout, first I want to express my sincere apologies for going MIA on the blog the past 2 weeks.  As you can imagine, being a small business owner is quite a demanding job.  Lately I’ve spent a TON of time trying to standardize and document my processes so I can bring on some full-time help!  I’m happy to announce that starting next week I’ll have a full-time front desk staff at GRIT Fitness – yay!  This means I can go home at 6pm each night instead of 9pm.

Aright, so here’s the workout you’ve been waiting for.  I’m calling it my GRIT Game Day Workout because is focuses on speed and agility – 2 skills needed to be victorious on Game Day!  Just watch the video to gain and understanding of the exercises, then put on some of your favorite JOCK JAMZ and get to work!

As an added bonus, here’s a throwback to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Football Field Workout that I created a about a year ago – it’s great in this lovely Fall weather!

Who’s your fav football team?

Have an awesome week! xoxo, Brit

Fun Partner Workout: 20 Minute Buddy Boot Camp

Hello friends!  As usual, I hope this post finds you joyous and well!  I’m gearing up for a wonderful week ahead… writing out my “To Do” list, making playlists for my classes and drafting our weekly newsletter.  Lately I’ve incorporated several parter exercises into my classes at GRIT Fitness, and I’ve been amazed by the positive response!  My classes love the personal interaction and the energy is through the roof.  This gave me the idea to create a “Buddy Boot Camp” partner workout that my clients (and you) can do on your own.  See below!

No equipment is required to complete the workout, all you need is a friend!  Here’s a brief explanation of the 5 exercises in the circuit:

  1. Plank Hold w/ alt. High Fives (Core + Upper Body) – Hold a straight arm plank position facing your partner.  While keeping your core tight and hips square to the ground, give each other a “high 5” with alternating hands.
  2. Squat Jump w/ Turn (Cardio + Legs) – Facing your partner, squat low and when you jump up, turn and face away from him/her.  Then squat jump and turn and face your partner again.  Keep repeating continuously for 1 min.
  3. Iso Squat Hold & Hi Knee Run In Place (Cardio + Legs) – One person holds a deep iso squat with both arms extended out in from of them, parallel to the floor.  During this time, the other partner does a hi knee run in place and tries make his/her knees to touch their parter’s hands.  Switch positions at the half way point (30 seconds in)
  4. Plank & Agility Footwork (Cardio) – One parter holds a forearm plank (hover position) while the other partner has to hop over his/her legs. Switch positions at the half way point (30 seconds in).
  5. Straight Leg Throw Downs (Core) – One partner lies down on her back with legs straight and holds onto the ankles/calves of her partner who is standing up behind her shoulders.  The lying down partner raises both legs up off the ground so that the standing partner can catch them and try to throw them down.  The challenge is for the lying down partner to not let her legs touch the floor while the stand partner throws them down.

After this workout, you and your friend should be covered in SWEAT & SMILES!  I’m big believer that workouts are more fun and effective with done with a partner – two are better than one 🙂

Last but not least, if you live in Dallas and want to join a super fun, FREE Buddy Boot Camp, Maria and I are hosting a free class at the Westin Galleria Dallas on Sunday, September 13th.  RSVP NOW to join the fun!  Wishing you a wonderful week.  xoxo, Brit

3 Healthy Habits For An Active Lifestyle

Hey Friends! I recently got back from Mexico with my boyfriend on a much-needed 4 day vacay. We went to Playa del Carmen Mexico for a little fun in the sun. Here are a few pics from our trip…

Beautiful view from our hotel balcony
Of course I enjoyed many mojitos 🙂

As much I love chillin’ and relaxing it’s so good to come back home to a job I love!   Upon my return, I immediately got back in the swing of things by teaching 4 classes in 1 day, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. No rest for the weary 🙂

While I’ve quickly got back into my workout routine, I’ve been pretty sloppy about getting adequate nutrition and rest. This week I’m making a personal goal to recommit to some of the daily habits that I’ve always sworn by, namely the following:

  • Get 8 hours of sleep each night
  • Drink 2 liters of water each day
  • Take 1 multivitamin each day

I hope sharing these daily goals with you helps me stay accountable throughout the week. Wish me luck! If you’re looking for more healthy habits, check out my Top 10 Healthy Habits for Sustained Success!  What are some of you healthy habits?

Have a happy, healthy week ahead.  xoxo, Brit

Summer Skin Regimen: Biossance Facial Moisturizer

Hello Friends! I hope this post finds you joyous and well!  Today I want to share a new beauty find I recently discovered and absolutely love!  Now keep in mind that I’m super picky when it comes to facial skin care products because my skin is a little on the oily side and I loathe looking shiny. Especially in the Summer it’s difficult to find a moisturizing treatment that’s non-greasy (hello 100+ degrees in Dallas).  However, I appreciate the importance of adequate skin moisture for wrinkle prevention and healthy PH balance.

That said I’ve been trying out Biossance Revitalizer which is unlike any facial moisturizing treatment I’ve used before.  First off, it’s made from Squalane which “replenishes your skin by using a moisturizer found naturally within you.”  It’s formulated to restore your own biological beauty.   Added bonus, you can also use the Revitalizer on your cuticles, dry skin patches or as hair serum for shine.

Trying out Biossance and loving it!

I decided to try the Revitalizer for 30 days as part of the Biossance 30 Day Embodied Project. A lot can happened in 30 days – we can transform our bodies, our minds and our skin!  So for the past month I’ve followed a very simple 2-step summer skin care regimen:

  1. Every morning, wash my face and apply oil free SPF 15 sunscreen
  2. Every night, wash my face and I apply 2-3 small drops of Biossance to my face and neck before bed

I can honestly say that my skins feel revitalized,  super smooth and not oily despite the blazing temperatures outside.  I took a selfie before bed last night to show off my complexion – I’m super impressed.

Chillin’ with no make up on…

What’s your Summer Skin Care regimen?

20 Minute Cardio Tabata Workout

Happy Hump Day Friends!  I hope your week is going well.  I’m counting down the days until my boyfriend and I jet set to Mexico for a much-needed vacation!  The past couple of weeks have been crazy busy planning social events for my fitness studio, teaching classes and attending fitness conferences BUT I wouldn’t have it any other way.

While we intend to spend most of our time being lazy on the beach, we’re both gym rats so we made up some efficient and effective Tabata workouts to knock out in the hotel gym.  Tabata is a Japanese form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).  You can click here to learn more.  Here’s the workout we tried out last week and really enjoyed.

If you want to try the workout, be sure to warm up with light/moderate intensity cardio for 3-5 minutes (e.g. jumping jacks, jog, stationary bike).  Also, you will need 1 set of medium/heavy dumbbells (5-10 pounds) and a jump rope.  You can expect to burn 200-300 calories in 20 minutes.  Better yet, interval training shocks your body so you keep burning calories even after your workout.  YEAH BUDDY!

I hope you enjoy and have an awesome day!  xoxo, Brit

Image: Annabel, Kemi and I posing at the IDEA World Fitness Conference – GRIT Fitness Instructors represent!

Hola friends!  I hope your week is going well.  This week is a bit of a bear as I’m still getting back in the swing of things after being in Los Angeles for the IDEA World Blog Fest & Fitness Convention. This was my 2nd time attending as last year I went for the 1st time and had an absolute blast.  Check out my blog post reflecting on my most memorable moments the 2014 IDEA World.

This year’s conference was equally energizing and inspiring and better yet, 2 of my best friends & fellow GRIT Fitness instructors (Annabel and Kemi) came with me!  We enjoyed 3 days of workshops, workouts and fitness classes in LA.  My adorable aunt (who’s 75 years old and super amazing looking – OMG see photo below) hosted us at her fab house.  We had an awesome trip perfectly balanced with relaxation and invigoration.  Here are a few pics…

And more Dallas Fit Friends – Mark Shipman from the Ride House & Shredded by Mark 🙂
I took a killer workout with Gabrielle Reece – HighX workout – check it out!
And obvi I made lots of new blogging buddies during Blog Fest!

I love attending these conferences because I pick up little nuggets wisdom from fellow fitness entrepreneurs.  Here are the Top 5 takeaways that impacted me most…

Image: Our Zumba / Dance Cardio class at the Westin Galleria Dallas after Summer Sweat Series #2

There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.

– Vicki Baum

Happy Monday beauties!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend – mine was busy but lots of fun.  Yesterday morning I enjoyed an energetic Dance Club Cardio class at my studio, GRIT Fitness, and I couldn’t help but acknowledge how happy I felt after class.  There’s something about dancing that just makes my soul sing and getting a good cardio workout in the process is icing on the cake.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my studio is partnering with the Westin Galleria Dallas to bring a series of free workouts and pool parties each month this Summer.  We’re calling it the Sumer Sweat Series.  Our 2nd series was a Zumba / Dance Cardio class and it was a HIT – over 200 members of the Dallas Community came to sweat and shake with us.  Here are some pics from the event…
