Dallas Dance Cardio Party!

Hey hey friends!  I hope your day is off to a great start!  I’m Chicago bound this morning to visit some friends and do a little market research among some leading studios in Chi-town. As 2015 wraps up, I’m kicking my innovation juices in high gear a developing some fun, fresh new class formats to introduce at GRIT Fitness in 2016!

But before I get a ahead of myself, I’m wanted to share an upcoming event that I’m super excited about – our first ever Friday Night Dance Cardio Party!  Talk about a “healthy happy hour” huh?  So, 3 of our super fab dance cardio instructors are teaming up to bring a 2-hour dance party.  Better yet, our friends from Fabletics are providing swag to all attendees.

Happy Monday beauties!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend – mine was busy but lots of fun.  Yesterday morning I enjoyed an energetic Dance Club Cardio class at my studio, GRIT Fitness, and I couldn’t help but acknowledge how happy I felt after class.  There’s something about dancing that just makes my soul sing and getting a good cardio workout in the process is icing on the cake.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my studio is partnering with the Westin Galleria Dallas to bring a series of free workouts and pool parties each month this Summer.  We’re calling it the Sumer Sweat Series.  Our 2nd series was a Zumba / Dance Cardio class and it was a HIT – over 200 members of the Dallas Community came to sweat and shake with us.  Here are some pics from the event…

Life as an Entrepreneur + Sexy Arms Workout

Hey gang!  I hope your week is going well.  This is week has been MUCH more mellow than last, as my new studio is up and running without the craziness of grand opening week.  My team and I are having a blast getting to know our clients and teaching classes.  The energy at GRIT Fitness is through the roof!  After this week, we’ll operate in a more “business as usual” mode with less on-the-fly to changes to our schedule, policies, memberships, etc.  For instance, today marks the end of our grand opening membership offer to enjoy a year of unlimited classes for only $75 per month!  If you live in Dallas, you’d best get up on this (wink wink) – CLICK HERE to purchase!

There are SO many moving parts to manage when running your own business.  Everyday I wake up with a long “to do” list and every night it’s never finished…sigh.  I thought I’d be able to manage everything on my own, but I’ve quickly learned that I need help!  In order to grow and execute things with the highest level of quality I HAVE to depend on others.  This has been really tough for me because I pride myself in “doing it all.”  Fortunately, I have some amazing friends who’ve volunteered to work the front desk and help with social media marketing barter for classes.  Not bad huh? I’m a lucky girl.

Right now I’m focusing on outlining the marketing strategy that we’ll execute over the next few months.  I’m also prioritizing my team’s development, so I spend lots of time in one-on-one practice sessions to grow the skills of my instructors.  I have NOT figured out how to keep my car clean, plan my meals or how to effectively structure my days, so if any fellow entrepreneurs have advice, PLEASE SHARE!

Dallas Grit Fitness Studio Photos & Grand Opening Festivities! January 17-24

Happy Monday Y’all!  I hope you enjoyed a nice long post-Christmas weekend.  I totally feel the vibes of everyone getting ready for 2015.  This morning I subbed a 5:45 spin class at BEYOND Pedaling and the energy was through the roof.  I love it when my class comes the the studio ready to work!

I’m spending the rest of the my day at my own fitness studio, GRIT Fitness.   It’s so surreal to actually have my “own fitness studio.”  A dream come true!  Now we are really in the home stretch – only 3 weeks until our grand opening.  Yay!

I auditioned and hired 1 more Power Flow instructor this morning which means GRIT Fitness will open with a fun, fierce team of 11 fabulous instructors (including me)!

Here’s a quick run down of the recent progress that me and my family made over the Christmas break…

Hung the door sign and hot pink vinyl lettering the windows
Finished decorating the lobby and hanging signs. Also, got a cool chalk board to keep clients up to date on what’s happenin’
Created a press/media wall to show off all of the cool features we’ve received to date
Stocked the studio with equipment – weights, yoga mats, etc.

Last week I traveled to Miami for work and while I was there I had the awesome opportunity to check out Vixen Workout.  I’ve been hearing about this sexy sweat session that’s selling out classes of over 100 women every night,  Obviously, I had to check it out.

First off, the class is held in a Miami dance studio.  When I walked through the door, the instructor greeted me wearing a tank top with “Twerk Society” written across her chest (see below).  Then I walked into the back studio and the girls were wearing platform heels and spandex pants – lookin’ like true “Video Vixens.” I was like…alright then.  The studio was dark lit only by colored lights and a disco ball.  I’m not gonna lie, at this point I was little intimidated.

Fortunately, the music started blasting, the lights got even lower and then it was ON!  The instructor was a ball of energy shouting commands like “Pop” “Shake” “Grind.”  I was caught a little off guard as that was totally different from what I shout during my kickboxing and spinning classes.  Overall, the vibe was very fun and I loved that every girl in the class seemed to get “lost” for 1 hour and exude an abundance of self-assurance.  There was one point when I was truly convinced, I was in a Beyonce video.  As a woman, I must say, it was quite empowering.  I could go on and on about this class, but here are a few facts in case your wanna check it out for your self…

GRIT by Brit Vixen Workout Review 

  • Workout Type: Sexy Dance Cardio, for women only ages 18+
  • Duration: 60 Minutes
  • Calorie Burn: 350-500
  • Price: Very affordable, only $12 per class
  • Location: Miami and a few classes have started in NYC
  • Intensity: Moderate (like an intermediate/advanced Zumba class)
  • Choreography:  Moderately complex.  Not too difficult.  Lots of “adult” moves (i.e. twerkin’, booty poppin’, droppin’ it low).  There are only 5-6 moves per song, so it’s easy to pick up the combinations.  Each class consists of a warm up, about 8 working tracks and then a “booty-shakin’ finale.”
  • Music:  Mostly dirty south hip hop and lots of Beyonce!  Think Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Drake, Rihanna, etc.
  • Vibe: CRUNK.  This class reminds me a lot of my friend Sadie’s 305 Fitness in NYC.  The difference is that Vixen Workout has more hip hop music and the moves are much sexier.  I actually felt very sexy during the workout – it was a super confidence booster!
  • Fun Factor: Through the roof!  This is honestly the most fun I’ve had while working out in a very long time.  As you guys know, I do NOT consider myself a dancer.  I have a very athletic build and often feel out of my element in dance classes.  But, the low lights and club-like atmosphere made it easy for me to let loose.
